In the Shadow of the Noose

Ever have a list of "To-Do" items lurking over your head like a hangman's noose?  The shadow of the scaffolding darkening every moment of the day?  I do.  There are times when it gets hard to relax and enjoy myself because there are so many other things I know need to be done.  Recently I've even been e-mailing myself reminders which sit unopened, silent accusations of responsibility.

Hubby is a big fan of David Allen's Getting Things Done, which is a resource that helps you get away from that sort of feeling.  The book is supposed to teach techniques that help you organize your time and declutter your thoughts so that you can be more productive and more relaxed.  My sweet boy has kindly placed it in a place of prominance (ie the bathroom floor) so I can read it.  I haven't yet, but I will.  That's the was the location of the last book of his I read; eventually it will be the only choice.

Even though I haven't actually read the book, Hubby has shared some tips.  Like "if it takes less than a few minutes go ahead and do it" sorts of things.  And you know what?  I just knocked two things off of my list in the space of two phone calls and it really is that easy.  Playgroup friends who read this will be sad to know that Bud's Best only gives tours on Mondays and Tuesdays, so that is out as an activity for us.  But I called, and can now delete that reminder e-mail.  The other was a more rewarding call for me personally; I have an appointment for a physical in October so I can resume weight loss.  That means the clock is ticking for Aerin and I, which is sad, but at least there's something for me to look forward to along with the weaning.

I also mailed a birthday present to my little brother, sent books to a friend and got stamps for Aerin's party invitations (which I addressed last night.)  I've had a super productive morning and it's only noon.  This is a great start to my week.  Let's hear it for Mondays!

Good Monday!! I have read that book...it's really great. Of course, I love that kind of thing - it's like excel spreadsheets for your mind!
