Oh, The Pain

My son's first word's to me this morning were rather panicked:

"Mommy!  My tummy hurts!"

I crawled in bed with him and pulled him close* and began mommy triage; checking his forehead and thinking furiously if I'd heard of any stomach bugs and so on.  Then it dawned on me just what was wrong with my pitiful little darling's gastrointestinal tract.  It was empty.  My child had categorically refused all sustenance yesterday!  He was HUNGRY!

Rejoice!  The child does NOT live on air, as I we had begun to fear.

*And doesn't that just describe parenting.  Any other place or person in the world who might have a stomach bug you stay far far away and break out the lysol.  Your child?  You pull them close.

I'm lucky: I've not been puked on by either of my kids yet. I might be less cuddly in such cases if that had ever happened.

There;s that and there is also getting through the night...Mine invariably wanted to sleep in here for comfort when vilely sick and no way would I not let them. Also, if they woke up with that pre-hurl groan, I figured it was easier to get a big thick towel under them than to be changing their bed three times a night. Because at two to six, you just can't expect them to make it to the toilet, and some can't even deal with a waiting bucket.
